The third Turin Biennial Antiques Fair, Antiquari a Venaria 08, will be held from 4 - 12 October 2008 in the Scuderia Grande of the Reggia di Venaria, one of the greatest palaces of the Savoy family estate. Indeed, the 1,700 square metre exhibition area of this magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site – only recently reopened to the public following an eight year restoration programme - will host a selection of over 50 leading national and international antiquarians chosen by a scientific committee whose members include art historians of the calibre of Andrea Bacchi, Daniele Benati, Simone Chiarugi, Andrea De Marchi, Mina Gregori, Fernando Mazzocca, Claudio Pizzorusso and Carmen Ravanelli Guidotti. Rather than merely bringing together a series of stands, the exhibition area designed by Milanese architect Italo Rota transforms the majestic spaces of the Scuderia Grande (a 148 m x 12 m with ceilings of over 16 metres in height) into a city of arts, a treasure chest of priceless exhibits whose visitors will be invited to follow a multi-level pathway from which they can admire both a reconstruction of a small village complete with studios, workshops and homes and the exhibition area as a whole. As they progress along the pathway, the visitors to the exhibition will be accompanied by a cultural narrative explaining many of the hidden aspects of collecting, while antiques experts, psychologists, architects, art historians and collectors will be able to participate in a specially-dedicated event, Forum di Venaria, focusing on the cultural, artistic and psychological roots of the passion for searching which distinguishes antiques collectors.
