The ‘mascot event' of the Saloni is growing up. It will be 11 years old this spring, when it will unleash all its youthful exuberance from 16th to 21st April in a newly made-to-measure Pavilion 28 at the Milan Fairgrounds in Rho.
In 1998, the SaloneSatellite debuted as the very first event to focus entirely on young talent, with a dedicated space that rapidly became the meeting place par excellence for manufacturers, talent scouts and the most promising young designers. An event that has become a cross between a cult gathering and an obligatory appointment for all those who work in the furnishing sector and who want to be kept up to date in real time on the trends of the future. It is a highly prized credential for young designers, who see as it as an excellent conduit to the production world. Last year's show, “A Dream Come True” was devoted to the production of pieces showcased at SaloneSatellite over the years, and has since been requested for next autumn's “Turin 2008 World Design Capital” and by several international exhibition spaces thereafter.
The selection process is extremely and increasingly competitive, to the extent that this year we've deliberately accepted fewer participants than in previous years. In order to maintain its reputation as the venue that “anoints” young designers destined for the market, some of whom even make it into the star system (e.g. Matali Crasset, Lorenzo Damiani, Patrick Jouin, Harri Koskinen, Xavier Lust, Satyendra Pakhal
