The CMMS (China Marketing and Media Study’s) data for 2003 shows that China has a large group of ice cream consumers. More than 73 per cent of Chinese ate ice cream last year. At present, the per capita consumption is 2 litres a year, and the figure is expected to grow to 6 litres in 20 years, according to Liu Fan, a CMMS researcher. Foreign ice cream producers are expected to face stiffer competition in the large Chinese market. Foreign ice cream companies, including world famous ones such as the Wall's of Britain and Nestle of Switzerland, have introduced new products to China, with total annual production exceeding 1 million litres last year.
